LPA
LPA encodes apolipoprotein(a), a plasminogen-like glycoprotein that covalently attaches to apolipoprotein B-100 on an LDL particle to form lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), a pro-atherogenic and pro-thrombotic lipoprotein whose plasma concentration is almost entirely genetically determined. Variants including rs3798220, rs10455872, and rs1333049 raise Lp(a) levels or otherwise mark LPA-locus risk, making this one of the strongest known single-gene contributors to coronary artery disease risk independent of standard LDL cholesterol.
