rs921943 is a common marker inside DMGDH. Each T copy is linked to a small increase in baseline blood and toenail selenium. In an independent study, the marker explained about 2% of whole-blood selenium, but it did not change response to selenium supplements or glutathione-peroxidase activity. Food and supplements remain the main drivers of selenium level. This marker cannot diagnose deficiency or tell someone to take selenium. Ensembl also lists a rare A version, which is not interpreted.
