TMCO1
TMCO1 (transmembrane and coiled-coil domains 1) encodes an endoplasmic reticulum membrane protein that functions as a calcium-load-activated calcium channel, helping cells release excess ER calcium and maintain calcium homeostasis. TMCO1 is highly expressed in the trabecular meshwork, ciliary body, and retina, and common variants near this gene are one of the most reproducible GWAS hits for primary open-angle glaucoma, an often-silent condition in which elevated intraocular pressure damages the optic nerve.
