HTRA1
HTRA1 encodes HtrA serine peptidase 1, a secreted serine protease localized to vascular endothelium that degrades extracellular matrix components and modulates TGF-beta signaling and matrix metalloproteinase activity, processes relevant to tissue remodeling and angiogenesis. Together with the adjacent ARMS2 gene at the 10q26 locus, HTRA1 promoter variants (in linkage with rs10490924) are among the strongest known genetic risk factors for age-related macular degeneration, alongside CFH, particularly the neovascular (wet) form.
