HLA-B helps the immune system present protein fragments to immune cells. HLA-B*15:02 is linked to a rare, serious skin-reaction risk with phenytoin and fosphenytoin. It must be called as a high-resolution HLA allele; a negative result does not rule out every serious skin reaction.
