CYP2C9

CYP2C9 encodes a hepatic cytochrome P450 enzyme responsible for metabolizing many commonly prescribed drugs, including warfarin, phenytoin, and NSAIDs such as ibuprofen and celecoxib. Reduced-function alleles (notably *2 and *3) slow the clearance of these substrates, increasing bleeding risk with warfarin and raising exposure to NSAIDs and phenytoin, which is why CYP2C9 genotype informs dosing guidance for this substrate group.
