CP

CP encodes ceruloplasmin, the principal copper-carrying glycoprotein in blood plasma, synthesized mainly by the liver, which also has ferroxidase activity that couples copper handling to iron export and metabolism. Variants near CP, including those tagged by rs35691438, are associated with circulating copper and ceruloplasmin levels, and rare loss-of-function mutations cause aceruloplasminemia with copper and iron dysregulation.
