CBS

CBS (cystathionine beta-synthase) encodes a vitamin B6-dependent enzyme that catalyzes the first committed step of the transsulfuration pathway, condensing homocysteine with serine to form cystathionine and linking methionine metabolism to cysteine and glutathione synthesis. In this dataset, common variants near CBS are associated in GWAS with circulating selenium concentration, an epidemiological association whose direct mechanistic link to the transsulfuration pathway is not well established.
