ARMS2
ARMS2 (age-related maculopathy susceptibility 2) encodes a small protein expressed in retina and in monocytes/microglia that participates in complement activation, binding apoptotic and necrotic cells and recruiting the complement activator properdin. The disease-associated haplotype tagged by rs10490924 destabilizes ARMS2 mRNA and, together with CFH, is one of the two strongest common genetic risk loci for age-related macular degeneration.
